Role description:

Bryden Wood are currently seeking to recruit an Intermediate level Structural Engineer to join the expanding Civil & Structural team within our London office and work in an integrated multi-discipline environment

  • Ability to design structural components from concept stages through to construction with keen attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly communicate with a technical and non-technical audience
  • Innovative approach in design and willing to carry out own research
  • Ability to adapt to projects covering a diverse range of sectors
  • Good time management is essential to allow prioritisation of tasks
  • Experience of scheming technical solutions and presenting these internally and externally
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the Designers role under CDM 2015 and the function of project Design Risk Assessments

Responsibilities:

  • Provide project support in design and administration of projects to Senior Engineers
  • Manage own work load efficiently and complete tasks within defined programme
  • Communicate design clearly to technicians and be responsible for checking drawings
  • Coordinate designs with other disciplines working to BIM Level 2
  • Ensure that design work is checked and understand the importance of QA procedures
  • Prepare specifications and contribute to reports to support Senior Engineers
  • Development of strong relationships with the internal teams with a view to working collaboratively

Experience and Educational background:

  • A relevant Civil/Structural Engineering degree from an accredited University. Master’s degree desired but not essential
  • Experience working with Eurocodes is desired but not essential
  • Experience of 3+ years working in either a design office or within the construction industry
  • UK work experience is an advantage but not a requirement

Intermediate engineers will demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Be personable, approachable and flexible
  • Ability to identify key project issues and propose viable solutions for discussion with senior colleagues
  • Capacity to communicate across the team where appropriate and other disciplines
  • Ability to inspect work on site, record opening up works and defects, recognise and report unsafe working practices
  • Ability to prioritise own work and deliver within specified deadlines
  • Ability to recognise potential design issues for discussion with Senior Engineering management
  • Ability to lead small projects with the help from senior members

Other Skills:

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment or independently with self-managed projects
  • A good understanding of the principles of BIM
  • Knowledge of Revit Structure beneficial but not necessary
  • Experienced with using design software such as Autodesk Robot, Tekla Structural Designer or ETABS would be beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs (Outlook, Word and Excel) is essential

Candidates should have relevant design experience and be working towards chartered status of either the IStructE or ICE.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with strong technical ability.
