Role:

Bryden Wood is seeking a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer with an interest in off-site construction and DfMA. Our team develops innovative building systems and advanced construction methods through detailed design and productisation. Work ranges from concept development to delivery of fabrication level designs for manufacture.  Projects vary across a broad range of sectors with a focus on Platform based DfMA, complex façade systems, modularisation, and other off-site solutions. Our team also supports the development and delivery of fabrication detailing for prototyping.

You will work on multiple complex and exciting projects concurrently, at varying stages of completion, to provide mechanical engineering support within a multidisciplinary team. Applicants will be expected to work collaboratively in this environment to deliver innovative designs and closely integrate with our broader MEP and digital delivery teams. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and a great communicator, currently operating in a senior position or ambitiously seeking to break out of and progress from an intermediate position.

Although the role is within the Systemisation Team, support will of course be provided by our Architect and Engineering Teams for new team members to obtain Architectural Part 3 or Engineering Chartership. Our training schemes are approved by RIBA/CIBSE/ICE.

Skills:

  • Good engineering knowledge and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of MEP products and systems available on the market
  • Knowledge of design codes
  • Knowledge of technical detailing and design for construction
  • Good cross disciplinary knowledge
  • Knowledge of construction, fabrication, or manufacturing an asset
  • Experience with technical specifications an asset
  • A good understanding of the principles of BIM
  • Parametric modelling an asset
  • High quality document presentation (reports, drawings, presentations)
  • Willingness to work and learn beyond your discipline
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to work with all levels of employees and management within the organisation
  • Strong team player
  • Ability to work collaboratively or independently on self-managed projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and mastery of the English language
  • Positive / proactive / self-starting
  • Ability to see the ‘bigger picture’
  • Reporting to team discipline leads and Director

Software:

  • Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of software (we primarily use Revit/Solidworks), or a willingness to learn in a dynamic environment
  • Experience using software any of the following considered an asset: Navisworks, Inventor, CATIA, Dynamo, Grasshopper, Tekla Structural Designer, Tableau, Microsoft Office Suite, Programming Languages

Experience and Education:

  • Experience of 4 - 8 years working in either a design office or within the construction industry; And
  • Master’s degree in Engineering
