Our project with GSK to deliver a brand new life-saving facility in record time, has won a ‘Facility of the Year Award’ for Social Impact, from the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE).
This award means a huge amount to us at Bryden Wood. This project, in Parma, Italy, brought together a team from a wide range of disciplines and organisations, working together in new ways to deliver a finished and operational facility in just 15 months, as opposed to the usual three to four years. As the purpose of the facility was to ensure continuity of supply of a vital HIV treatment, the difference can be counted in the effect on prolonging lives.
A highly integrated project team created transparency, shared responsibility and increased effectiveness. Advanced digital tools - including immersive visualisation and virtual prototyping - made collaboration much more efficient and allowed optimisation of design and delivery. Use of design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA) and innovative technical solutions allowed us to build a flexible and future-proofed facility.
Martin Wood said, “This means a lot to me. This project is just a great example of what you can achieve with innovative design thinking, new ways of working, a bold client and a shared drive for collaboration and efficiency across the board.”
