The NBS launches its National BIM report last week. It shows that without innovation we simply don't have the capability to meet our building needs.
We're leading the report by urging the industry to recognise essential efficiencies will only be achieved with a fundamental shift in process where construction becomes like manufacturing,
We're also unveiling our platforms approach which radically redefines the design process through standardisation.
Platforms are sets of components that work together to allow products to be produced very efficiently. Just as the chassis revolutionised car manufacturing, platforms will transform how we build. The key is repeatable forms and standardised connections that can easily be combined to produce highly customised buildings. Many different kinds of space can be built on a single platform, and the entire government estate on potentially just three.
It’s clear why the government supports this approach. It allows high-quality building at lower cost. Find out here how platforms can give construction its ‘Uber moment’.
