Story

Originally designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the building was never intended to be constructed using a pre-fabricated approach. However, due to the constraints of the site and obvious need to maximise construction efficiency as well as increase site safety, Bryden Wood developed an ambitious and radical solution to deliver the building involving the pre-assembly of large sections of the vertical circulation cores, consisting of the lift shafts and motor rooms, WC blocks as well as associated circulation areas.

Using this solution, the design intent of the scheme was fully maintained and not a single element of the fully exposed ‘high-tech’ design from the original drawings required modification. Working closely with our client, our specialist digital team used advanced software to analyse and optimise each module in relation to weight and stability, as well as preparing a full 4D simulation of the installation process, to produce a comprehensive solution to the construction of one of London’s most recognisable buildings.
