Simon Sorrin

Simon Sorrin

Architecture | Project Leader | BA

Simon joined Bryden Wood in 2004, initially working as part of the team at Heathrow Terminal 5 as a Senior Technical Integrator, becoming the interface between Mace Solutions and numerous sub-contractors, creating a large suite of standard details as part of a terminal wide production design package. On returning to the main office he carried out a range of roles on different projects, from part of a wider team refitting BG Group’s head offices in Reading and residential refurbishment to project leader role working with Hertfordshire County Council constructing Children Centres.

Following this experience, Simon became involved in the construction of police stations and custody suites in Barking and Heathrow for the MET Police. Whilst working on Wandsworth Police Station, BIM was first used to develop a data-rich model within AutoCAD resulting in an extremely detailed and coordinated single model environment within the in-office’s multi-disciplined team. The modelled elements were also able to be swapped with fabricators information to ensure the comfort of full coordination going into the construction phase of the project.

Until 2014, Simon was working at Heathrow, assisting BAA with the design and delivery of 70 retail units within the new Terminal 2, ensuring that the fit out designers were able to comply with Heathrow’s design standards. Once the fit outs began Simon was on site every day to assist the ‘design guardians’ and construction managers in achieving the highest possible standards for finishes and health & safety.

More recently, Simon has carried out a project leader role designing and delivering a temporary coach station (FCC) at Terminal 3, Heathrow Airport, employing a largely pre-fabricated solution due to its airfield location, very short programme and stringent technical standards. By utilising different building products to produce the completed facility this job involved a large amount of coordination, both within the multi-disciplined team and the different manufacturer’s building components.

Simon also project led on a data centre fit out, managing the coordination of a multi-disciplined team as well as ensuring that the clients many standards were adhered to.
